Electron transfer theory.

Abstract

Basic concepts appearing in various electron transfer rate expressions are explained, and a selection of frequently encountered rate expressions is shown.

The most important concepts are (1) Reorganisation energies, (2) The driving force (or free energy) of the electron transfer reaction and (3) the electronic matrix element, which couples the initial and final states of the transfer.
